Fun Day Trip Ideas Near Ottawa


Not only does Ottawa have a ton to offer, but there is also a ton to see and do in the surrounding areas! We’ve compiled a list of easy trips you can take this summer. Pack up and go explore!

1. Oshawa Peony Festival
Distance from Ottawa: ≈ 3 hours and 50 minutes
On June 15th and 16th, the annual Oshawa Peony Festival will be taking place at the Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens from 10:00am to 4:00pm. The free festival carries 300 different types of beautiful peonies.

2. Parc Omega
Distance from Ottawa: ≈ 1 hour and 10 minutes
Take a trip to Parc Omega to feed the animals. Drive through the park with your windows down and feed the animals as you go. After the ride, there is an area that you can have a picnic where you will be greeted by deer.

3. Nordik Spa
Distance from Ottawa: ≈ 20 minutes
Take a relaxing day and spend it at Nordik Spa where you can try out their various saunas, pools, hot tubs and steam rooms. Make the most of your visit and treat yourself to a massage.

4. Eagle’s Nest Lookout
Distance from Ottawa: ≈ 1 hour and 30 minutes
If you have already completed all the trails at Gatineau Park and want to switch things up, head to Eagle’s Nest Lookout for a 1.5km hike that leads to an amazing lookout at the top of a 120-metre cliff.

5. Jabulani Vineyard & Winery
Distance from Ottawa: ≈ 35 minutes
Head over to Jabulani Vineyard & Wintery in Richmond Ontario for a tour that includes around 10 wine tastings, as well as various kinds of cheese, bread and fruit.

6. Algonquin Park
Distance from Ottawa: ≈ 2 hours and 45 minutes
Take a road trip to Algonquin Park to spend a day outside exploring. There are many activities you can try, such as hiking, canoeing, biking, fishing, horseback riding, swimming and more!

7. Terre Bleu Lavender Farm
Distance from Ottawa: ≈ 5 hours
Terre Bleu is Ontario’s largest lavender farm located in Campbellville. The best time to visit the farm is from June 23rd to September 1st, when the flowers are at their high season. At Terre Bleu you can also treat yourself to some delicious homemade lavender-flavoured ice cream. They also have a Herb Bar, where they offer fresh Mocktails, such as a Lavender Peach Bellini or a Pineapple Lavender Mojito.
