How To Keep Your Pets Warm This Fall/Winter

We may not always realize it, but colder temperatures affect our animals just as much as they affect us. Keeping your pets warm and safe during the winter months is crucial for their health. LIV Apartments is 100% pet-friendly and we have a ton of pet-residents to prove for it! We love your pets as much as you do and have come up with a few tips for how to keep them warm this fall and winter.

Bundle Up

When you’re out for walks, make sure your pets are warm with sweaters, jackets or boots. It may take time for them to get used to the extra items, but it’s a great way to add extra warmth for your pet. Also, decrease the amount of time your pet spends outside by going for shorter walks. For some quick fresh air without going for long walks, take advantage of the outdoor pet run at the back of the parking lot that will be open during winter!

Avoid cutting your pets hair too short during the colder months. Their longer coat is a great way to add insulation and keep their bodies warm. Animals’ skin can become dry and irritated as the weather changes, make use of the pet spa downstairs and give your pet a soothing bath before the weather becomes too cold. During the colder months, you can switch to a spray shampoo to keep your pet clean.

Food and Water

Make sure your pets are well fed and hydrated. As with humans, pets tend to eat more food in the winter to add extra warmth to their bodies.

Your pets comfort is important. Both outside and inside, they should be warm and comfortable at all times. Place their bed further away from windows to avoid any drafts and have extra blankets around for them to curl up with if they’re feeling chilly. Also make sure the heat in your apartment is at a reasonable temperate while you’re away to ensure they are warm. Check out how you can keep your pets cozy at home, here.
