The Best of Both Worlds: Craft Beer and Dinner

Sometimes after a long day, a cold beer is the refreshing beverage that you want. Fortunately, beer goes great with all kinds of food including delicious and simple meals that take almost no time to prepare. Thanks to Ottawa’s growing craft beer market, there are a ton of breweries downtown to support your beer interest, so we’ve compiled a list of a couple local beers to try and some recipes they’d pair well with!

Sweet and Spicy
This spicy chicken stir fry ditches the boring store-bought sauce for a tasty homemade one, but only takes 20 minutes to plate up. Cut through the spice with a fruity ale.
Pair it with: Pink Fuzz – Beyond the Pale

Strong and Hearty
A hearty barbeque is the perfect food to stand up to the bitterness of a strong IPA. This pulled pork sandwich is prepared in a pressure cooker so you can kick back and enjoy your beer as you wait!
Pair it with: On The Lamb IPA – Bicycle Craft Brewery

Light and Fresh
Made with fresh ingredients like avocado and basil, you don’t have to be afraid to indulge in this creamy pasta dish. Keep it a light meal with a light beer!
Dominion City Brewing Co. is donating $1 from every can of their upcoming Blonde Ale to support refugees welcome in Ottawa, so support your community and grab yourself a couple of beers on August 30th, when they launch.
Pair it with: Buck-a-Beer Blonde Ale – Dominion City Brewery

Fruity and Crisp
Whether you’re craving something light, sweet or savory, this salad will hit the spot. The crispiness of the apples is well balanced with the cheesiness of the brie and takes a quick 10 minutes to whip up. Fruit infused beer is the way to go to keep the meal light and simple.
Pair it with: Blueprint Blueberry Blonde – Broadhead Beer

Rich and Roasted
Grilled cheese, all day, every day. You don’t need an excuse to make one, but we’re giving you one anyways with this sweet and savory roasted strawberry, brie and chocolate grilled cheese. A smooth and chocolatey stout rounds out this meal perfectly.
Pair it with: Oatmeal Stout – Flora Hall Brewing

Whether you’re cooking for a small group or hosting a dinner party, these ideas are sure to please. Pop on over to these local breweries and you’re all set!
