Tips to Waking up in the Morning

Being an early bird can be a challenge, especially if you’re a natural night owl. You’d be surprised at what you can accomplish with an early morning – maybe it’s taking your dog for a bath at the LIV Apartments pet spa or to the rooftop pet run, making use of the gym or adding yoga to your morning. To help you achieve your goal of becoming a morning person, we have put together a few tips for you to try.

Power Down

Turning off devices such as your TV, phone, iPad, etc., an hour or so before you plan to go to bed can help you wind down faster. The bright lights of our devices keep us awake and stop our body from performing its natural shut down routine.

Bright Mornings

Natural light in the morning is a great way to help you wake up. Keep your blinds or curtains open a little to help the light shine through. During the winter months, turn on a light when you wake up to help you stay awake.

Alarm Clock

Alarm clocks are generally our go-to way to wake up in the morning. If you’re prone to pushing the snooze button, place your alarm further away so you’re forced to get out of bed or move your body to turn it off. On top of this, don’t press snooze! Those extra few minutes of sleep time may sound great in the moment, but they can actually make you feel more tired when you finally wake up.

Buddy System

Start a morning routine with a friend or spouse. Whether you’re calling or texting each other in the morning to make sure the other is awake, making plans to meet up or exercise, having a friend in this with you can help you stay focused and encourage you to get out of bed.

Routine is your friend when it comes to waking up in the morning. Going to bed at a decent time to ensure you’re receiving 6-8 hours of sleep a night (depending on the amount of sleep your body needs) and waking up at the same time every morning helps your body adjust quicker and makes those early mornings a whole lot easier!
